Prospect Watch: El Paso scored two in the ninth to defeat the Aces in Reno. … The winning hit came courtesy of Yonathan Perlaza, who swatted an RBI double to give El Paso a 6-5 lead. It was Perlaza’s league-leading 39th double of the season. The 26-year-old has swung the bat well in August in addition to significantly decreasing his strikeout rate. He’s punched out in just seven of 51 plate appearances this month and is hitting .305/.410/.549 with more walks (16) than strikeouts (14) over the last 30 days. … Will Wagner continued his hot hitting with two more hits, including his second dinger as a Chihuahua. The 26-year-old has hit safely in all ten games since joining El Paso and is hitting .378/.440/.556. The former Astro and Blue Jay is already on the 40-man roster and is a strong candidate to join the big league club when rosters expand on September 1. … Luis Campusano had two more hits and a pair of walks while manning first base for the Chihuahuas. He has reached base at least three times in each of the last four games and is sporting a ridiculous .488/.588/1.024 line in 51 plate appearances so far this month. … Righty Matt Waldron navigated the elevation in Reno and kept El Paso in the game. He worked five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits. He struck out six and did not allow a free pass. After a strong start to the season, Waldron has been clobbered in August. In three starts this month, he has a 17.61 ERA (15 earned runs in 7.2 innings). While ERA may not be the best metric to judge a pitcher in the PCL, it’s hard to find a positive spin of Waldron’s body of work this month. Overall, he has a 5.83 ERA with the Chihuahuas in 2025.

Tulsa Drillers 8, Missions 5

Key Statistics: 1B Romeo Sanabria 2-for-5, R; SS Francisco Acuña 3-for-3, R, BB; DH Albert Fabian 3-for-4, R, BB, 2 RBI; CF Damon Dues 2-for-4, SB (2); LHP Jagger Haynes 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K; RHP Jared Kollar (L, 1-7) 4.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 4 K

Prospect Watch: The Missions tallied 13 singles and left 13 runners on as they dropped their ninth straight game while ensuring a series lost. … Shortstop Francisco Acuña reached base in all four plate appearances with three singles and a walk. The 25-year-old has nearly doubled his previous season-high in plate appearances this season with the Missions, putting up respectable numbers in the process. The former Pirates farmhand is hitting .252/.346/.365 for the Missions. … Albert Fabian singled three times and drew a walk in five plate appearances. The 23-year-old has quietly been productive for the Missions over the last month. He’s struck out in just 17% of his plate appearances and he’s delivered a healthy wRC+ of 136. Fabian hasn’t played very often in the field since coming back from last year’s leg injury, but his bat has seemingly found another gear. He’s eligible for the Rule 5 Draft in the offseason. While he’s unlikely to be protected, he’s showing encouraging signs of development. … Organizational newcomer Damon Dues had a pair of singles and added a stolen base. The 27-year-old had been 0-for-13 in his first three games since signing a free agent contract last week. The former Wright State outfielder was released by the Giants last year. Since then, he’s spent parts of the last two seasons in the independent Atlantic League and, most recently, in Mexico. He opened the year with Staten Island, where he was teammates with former all-star Pablo Sandoval. …  Lefty Jagger Haynes struggled mightily and recorded just two outs before being lifted. He threw 32 pitches – just 16 for strikes – and allowed three earned runs before being lifted. The poor outing raised his ERA to 4.20.

West Michigan Whitecaps 5, TinCaps 1

Key Statistics: CF Kasen Wells 1-for-2, BB, RBI; 1B Jack Costello 1-for-4; RHP Isaiah Lowe (L, 3-10) 4 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K; RHP Josh Mallitz 2 IP, 2 H, 3 K

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps managed just two hits and dropped their third straight to West Michigan in front of 6,000 fans at Parkview Field. … Center fielder Kasen Wells singled and drew a walk. He was one of just two TinCaps to reach base more than once. The speedy outfielder has drawn walks at a healthy rate since being promoted, but has otherwise struggled in a small sample. In 11 games with Fort Wayne, Wells carries a .618 OPS. … Righty Isaiah Lowe struggled again on Friday, taking his tenth loss in the process. Lowe allowed an untenable 12 baserunners in four innings of work, allowing nine hits and walking three. The North Carolina native has walked the fifth-most batters in the Midwest League, and his 1.72 WHIP has contributed to a career-worst ERA of 5.81 in his second trip through the Midwest League. … Righty Josh Mallitz completed two scoreless innings, allowing a pair of hits to go with three strikeouts. The former Mississippi righty has not allowed a run in his last three outings, racking up six strikeouts without issuing a walk in 5.1 innings.

San Jose Giants 12, Storm 1

Key Statistics: DH Alex McCoy 1-for-3, R, BB, 2 SB (8); RF Kavares Tears 2-for-3, BB, SB (5); 2B B.Y. Choi, 2-for-4; RHP Maikel Miralles (L, 2-3) 4.1 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 2 K; RHP Jordan Valenzuela 2.1 IP, BB, 4 K

Prospect Watch: The Giants had a pair of six-run innings Friday night to decimate the Storm at The Diamond. … Alex McCoy singled, drew a walk, and added a pair of stolen bases, including swiping home to plate the Storm’s only run of the night. McCoy has been otherworldly for the Storm in August. He’s hitting .400/.491/.800 with three homers and eight RBI in 55 plate appearances. … Kavares Tears had a pair of hits, including his 19th double of the year, and drew a walk as he reached base three times in a game for the first time in nearly a month. The outfielder swiped his fifth base, but kept his success rate on the season at just 50 percent when he got thrown out on another attempt. … Righty Maikel Miralles got through the first four innings efficiently, needing just 47 pitches to cruise through without allowing a run. However, the wheels came off in the fifth, as five of the six batters he faced came through with hits. He left having already surrendered three runs, and both of the runners he left on came around to score. Miralles pitched well in July, posting a 1.53 ERA in 17.2 innings. However, it’s been a different story this month as the 20-year-old has a 9.75 ERA with opposing batters hitting .367 in August. … In a bright spot, righty Jordan Valenzuela tossed 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just a walk and striking out four Giants. The 20-year-old had an ERA over 10 in the desert, but he’s pitched well since joining the Storm roster. In 7.2 innings, he’s allowed just one run while punching out 12. He signed with the Padres for $10,000 just after his 18th birthday in 2023.
